Backyard Green Boho Wedding with Rain and Tacos in Ogden, Utah

Ogden, Utah

It was a moody overcast day in Ogden, Utah. Rain was in the forecast all day and the wedding ceremony was set to start around noon. As I drove up north to Ogden from Salt Lake, I couldn’t help but worry that we might see some raindrops.

As I pulled up to the family member’s home in Ogden, I saw the beautiful & lush green backyard where family members were setting up chairs while the groom’s father was mic checking the sound system. What a backyard! There were multiple water features, lush trees, and a beautiful yard with impeccable landscaping - definitely a wedding photographer’s dream!

The first shots of the day started with Madi’s getting ready photos. Madi and her mother shared a special moment relishing in the start of the wedding day with Madi in her beautiful white wedding dress. We were also able to capture Madi’s bridesmaid’s priceless reactions to her wedding dress!

Shortly after Madi’s getting ready photos, wedding guests started to trickle in. I got into position as Phil (the groom) approached the altar. After all of the groomsmen & bridesmaids got into their respective spots, Madi made her grand entrance looking absolutely stunning! The entire wedding ceremony went off without a hitch and without rain!

After the wedding ceremony, friends and family mingled and I tried to get as many candids as possible. I just love wedding days for lively candid photos. It’s just so much fun to see friends and family members who you thought would never cross paths talking with each other in your gallery months after you tied the knot. I would definitely say one of my strong points of being a wedding photographer is capturing candid photos of wedding guests. Most of the time without them even realizing!

Ogden Temple

After family formals we headed to the Ogden Temple for Phil and Madi’s grand exit photos. Just right before they were set to make their temple exit, a GIGANTIC storm cell appeared miles in the distance seemingly approaching the Ogden Temple. Their exit was well received by family and other wedding guests and we made sure to knock out family formals at the temple very quickly. This was one of the quickest family formals I’ve had as a wedding photographer. There were no shortage of family members to photograph, this is Utah after all!

Once we were done with family formals, we finally had a chance to get some solo shots of the wedding couple at the temple grounds only for the sky to open up and rain to pour down. Most wedding photographers would be worried about their gear getting wet but I was focused on getting just a few more shots of the bride and groom! They embraced the rain and we were able to get some awesome rainy wedding day photos :)

We headed back to the house in Ogden for some tacos while we waited out the rain. Pro tip! Have a taco bar at your wedding! Once the rain let up, the wedding reception was on! The cake cutting and bouquet toss were such fun moments to capture. I can’t believe the moments after the bridesmaid caught the bouquet.

Once the bouquet was tossed, it was time to hit the dance floor. The mother of the groom and father of the bride dances were emotional and beautiful to photograph. We then got some classic strobe photos of the bride & groom dancing the night away with their wedding guests. We even got a dressed down sparkler exit featuring Crocs!

It was such a beautiful wedding only slightly interrupted by the rain!
