Moody Wedding Bridal Session At Jordan Pines

Jordan Pines Big Cottonwood Canyon Utah

Jordan Pines Campground Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah

Jordan Pines is quite the popular spot for engagement and wedding photography in Salt Lake City! It’s an easy-to-access location equipped with a parking lot that puts you immediately into the green forested landscape of Big Cottonwood Canyon. With a drive time only being 40 minutes from Salt Lake City, traversing up the winding road up Big Cottonwood is more than worth it. Also once you are done with a session, you can keep driving up SR-190 to check out two ski resorts on the Ikon Pass: Solitude & Brighton. In between these two resorts is also a Nordic center next to the beautiful Silver Lake! I’ll be sure to share a beautiful engagement session I did there very soon  I just can’t get enough of Big Cottonwood Canyon

Devin and Alayna were a great couple to work with! They needed both an engagement session and a bridal session for their wedding content, and we opted to do both of these wedding sessions at Jordan Pines. For Alayna’s solo bridal session, as we were driving up Big Cottonwood Canyon the clouds kept looking heavier and darker. We started to worry. As soon as we walked out of the Jordan Pine’s parking lot (with Alayna ready to go in her bridal gown, with hair/ makeup done, and with a beautiful boho bouquet of flowers), it began to rain. Luckily my fiancée was present to assist and sprinted back to the car to grab a blanket so we could protect the wedding dress (none of us had thought to bring an umbrella along). We waited a bit (the bride, groom and photographers) huddled under a blanket for a few minutes debating on whether to call it or not and then out of nowhere the rain stopped! Sometimes you just get lucky. Although we were cursing the rain, the clouds allowed a very moody mountain backdrop similar to what you would expect in the PNW, not Utah! With the cloud coverage and Alayna’s bohemian inspired wedding bouquet, we were able to get some very beautiful images.

I’m so glad we didn’t have to reschedule, because this couple drove all the way up from Lehi. Lesson learned: always bring umbrellas and ponchos (Future clients, fear not- these live in my car now).
