Chilly Bonneville Salt Flats Engagement Shoot

Wendover, UT

When Talia, Max and I were trying to figure out where to do their engagement shoot, we threw around a few ideas. These locations were mainly based around the Salt Lake City metropolitan area or the snowy Cottonwood Canyons. I suggested Jordan Pines Campground, Silver Lake trail near Brighton & Solitude ski resorts, Sugarhouse Park and Liberty Park. At the last minute, I thought to myself “Hmm, there would be no way that they would be down for the Salt Flats but it’s worth a try.” They were more than down.

I have always wanted to do a shoot at the Salt Flats.

Just shy of a two-hour drive from Salt Lake City, the Bonneville Salt Flats offer an incredible and vast white, salty landscape. Surrounded by beautiful blue mountains, there really isn’t a bad place to take a photo. This was my first time venturing out this far west in Utah so I didn’t quite know what to expect. We planned to meet at the rest stop right before Wendover.

We had been monitoring the weather for a week and decided to make a last minute call on whether or not to proceed with the shoot. The forecast had rain in the cards all day, however there was a short window in the afternoon where the rain was predicted to subside. We rolled the dice and oh man did it pay off!

Max and Talia’s energy from the get-go was like nothing I have ever experienced in a shoot. They came prepared with multiple outfits ready to brave 34°F wind gusts and a cloudy Salt Flats. These guys were the biggest troopers and kept high spirits despite the freezing cold.

Check out some images from the shoot below and if you are interested in venturing out to the Bonneville Salt Flats, send me a message!
